About the internship
Job role: AI/ML intern (Computer vision & geospatial intelligence)
We are seeking a highly motivated AI/ML intern to help build a cutting-edge module for the automated digitization of power distribution infrastructure. You will work on transforming raw drone imagery into intelligent, GIS-mapped electrical networks. This role involves solving complex problems like asset detection in 'noisy' environments (urban/forest) and inferring logical electrical connectivity (topology) from visual data.
Selected intern's day-to-day responsibilities include:
1. Object detection & segmentation: Develop and fine-tune models to identify poles, transformers, insulators, and conductors in high-resolution drone footage.
2. Network topology mapping: Implement algorithms (such as Graph Neural Networks) to predict connectivity between identified assets, ensuring the logical flow of the electrical grid.
3. Geospatial integration: Work with GIS data formats (Shapefiles, GeoJSON) to ensure detected assets are accurately mapped to real-world coordinates.
4. Robustness engineering: Optimize models to handle 'occlusions'- where trees or buildings hide wires- to maintain 95%+ accuracy.
5. Data pipeline management: Assist in preprocessing large-scale aerial datasets and implementing automated labeling workflows.
