About the internship
Selected intern's day-to-day responsibilities include:
1. Work with the core engineering team to design and integrate the avionics architecture for an advanced fixed-wing UAV, including flight controllers, navigation sensors, communication modules and onboard computing.
2. Configure, develop and tune flight-control systems using ArduPilot/PX4 and flight controllers such as Pixhawk or Cube for stable autonomous fixed-wing flight.
3. Develop and test embedded software in C++ and Python for sensor integration, telemetry, health monitoring, navigation and aircraft subsystem interfaces.
4. Integrate GNSS, IMU/INS, barometer, airspeed sensors and other navigation sensors, and support sensor fusion and navigation-resilience development.
5. Build and run Software-in-the-Loop (SITL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HITL) simulations before testing algorithms and flight software on physical aircraft prototypes.
6. Use MATLAB/Simulink, Python or equivalent tools for control-system modelling, data analysis, flight-log analysis and validation of aircraft behaviour.
7. Assist with avionics wiring, power distribution, connectors, basic PCB integration, EMI/EMC considerations and Size, Weight, Power and Cooling (SWaP-C) management.
8. Participate in bench testing, ground testing, flight testing, troubleshooting and iterative improvement of integrated UAV avionics.
9. Maintain clear engineering documentation covering interfaces, test results, software changes, hardware configurations and technical decisions.
